Agriculture is the only sector which, if well harnessed, can provide answers to 85% of the challenges Africa is currently grappling with, including insecurity. For agriculture will provide food security and create jobs; it will eliminate poverty and spur economic growth.
African Mega Projects Investors (AMPI)’s Management made the agricultural sector one of the key priorities of its intervention in Africa.
If we go by the AfDB President’s analyses, “Africa’s current annual food import bill is $35 billion, and is estimated to rise to $110 billion by 2025.” It is worrisome indeed. “This weakens African economies, decimates its agriculture and exports jobs from the continent”.
We are set to reverse this trend to make Africa a net exporter of food in 2030 by making all investors in agricultural sector in the continent our best partners and making tens of billions of dollars available for African countries that place agriculture on the top of their development agenda.
